about

This live album was recorded for VPRO radio in 1996 with the Australian writer Hilaire. It was then released on CD in a limited edition. Other guest artists in the Mort aux Vaches series included Pimmon, Machinefabriek, David Shea, Tim Hecker, Muslimgauze, Merzbow, Ryoji Ikeda, Pan Sonic, and many more.

All releases were limited editions and came in a typical trifold packaging, with the CD held in place by a copper split-nail. Over the years some special materials were used like foam, plastic, vinyl, copper-foil, tracing paper, sandpaper, etc.

After the session I continued playing, lightheartedly, and chanced upon a local broadcast that rather bizarrely happened to feature an interview with me. I began sampling and looping this and creating something completely playful just for the moment. So, you can imagine my surprise when my artist copies of the finished CD arrived and I found this track hidden at the end of the CD. In retrospect, it seems that Staalplaat thought that it would be amusing to add it, despite never checking this with me at the time. Both Hilaire and I were distressed at this poor behaviour, feeling that it removed from the integrity of the live performance and diminished the mood. And for me especially, the idea of releasing a CD featuring an interview with myself was too soaked in ego as to be acceptable at the time.

Subsequently the original pressing of the CD had to be destroyed which made me very uncomfortable and naturally caused grief with Staalplaat. I wasn't happy with any aspects of this playground behaviour, but over the years, with the album completely unavailable, and with many enquiries asking about what this missing 'untitled 'track actually was, I've added it here for posterity. But it's added as a minor work at the very end of the extras.

I've also included the rare Stroke track taken from Lágrimas De Miedo N°5 - Kimota (Fear Drop Magazine) 1998
