For the 40th anniversary of the Crafts Council in London 2011 I was invited to create a piece of music inspired by items in their collection.

Choosing work to respond to and reflect upon was not an easy task with such a wealth of richly inspiring works in the collection but in the end I chose works based upon their possible sound properties. This unusual approach drew me towards Fred Baeir’s Star Wars Chair and Helen Maurer’s Loop. The former suggested a playful cinematic image, with a strong industrial influence, whilst Loop offered a delicate fragile image of glass and reflective surfaces so two very contrasting worlds. The final work forms a bridge between the two with recordings of leather, hair and glass.
