Two songs from my recording sessions in Hanoi Vietnam in November 2003. I was there at the invitation of the British Council and working on a project recording and mapping the street calls of Vietnam. That's to say, all the hawkers selling food and drink in the streets. I was conscious that as time goes by these would become something very much of the past and indeed as the years have passed, many of these have subsequently disappeared. At the time there were no American fast food restaurants or anything of that sort, so I wanted to capture a picture of that moment.

In the end I recorded about 14 CD-Rs worth of material which sits in my archive now. Whilst in Hanoi I met with local artists and we performed The Street Symphonies at The Hanoi Opera House, considered to be one of the architectural landmarks of Hanoi. I was the first electronic musician to ever perform live there. Interestingly we had to get the permission of the local Police to perform and even though we had full approval, on the night of the show itself they decided to bar entrance until a 'fee' was paid. Yes, a bribe to ensure it went ahead.

The show was wonderful and I might share that recording one day if it sounds decent. For the moment here are two pop songs recorded in a heavily humid studio on an early version of Ableton Live in the bedroom studio of Pham Tuan Hung.
