about

'Invisible Choirs' was originally recorded in 1995 to soundtrack an art installation of mine in London, commissioned by The Wire magazine for a music festival they were curating.

I later released a highly edited excerpt from this piece on my Sound for Spaces album in 1998, but until now the full piece has never been heard. Over the weekend of 5-6 April 2020, it was played out on The Dark Outside, an extraordinary radio broadcast that is only heard once and features only unreleased music by a variety of artists. With no tracklist, no ability to listen back, and no archive, the vast majority of these works simply disappear into the ether, but I had such an unprecedented amount of mails and enquiries about this work that I decided to release it officially here on Bandcamp.

The work samples the voice of my close friend Lee Newman of Greater Than One/Technohead/Tricky Disco, who sadly passed away that same year on 4 August from cancer. The work was and continues to be dedicated to her.
